My wife Kathleen and I have lived in Lake County for 30 years. We love raising our two daughters here. And we’d like to retire among our great neighbors, forest preserves and engaging community.
As a co-founder of The Citizens Action Project of Lake County, our volunteer group wrote and passed a state law to make property tax assessments and appeals more transparent. It’s helped thousands of county residents lower their taxes. But much more needs to be done.
The county has been on an unsustainable path for decades. Our roads are getting worse, and our property taxes rise nearly every year. That puts our retirement — and those of our neighbors — in grave jeopardy. County administration is out of touch, behind the times and costing us money with inefficient management and spending. We should lead the nation in innovation not property tax rates!
I’m tired of the status quo. I have a vision for how to move doable projects forward. I will tackle these challenges by learning and listening to the voters of District 6, which includes Grayslake, Hainesville and sections of Round Lake Park, Round Lake Beach and Wildwood. I’ll champion common-sense solutions with an eye on long-term planning.
My experience in communications and finance will help District 6 voters in a number of ways: I know what questions to ask, what numbers to vet, and how to do a deep dive on county balance sheets and contracts.
Kathleen and I have a vision to “green” the county to lower our carbon footprint, create good-paying jobs and lower government operating expenses. Being green is more than doing the right thing; it more than pays for itself and makes us more-responsible stewards of our county resources and the planet.
